A Record Chance |
The R.W.A. President offers a rare record-breaking opportunity
The response to my President's Appeal has gone well enough
for me to offer our leading Racewalkers the opportunity to break
the existing UK records for Men's 2 hours (26037metres) and Women's
20kms (1.57.00).
A provisional booking has been made for Sunday 27 October at
the Nuneaton track but will only be confirmed if there is sufficient
support from the walkers themselves.
The field will be limited to UK based walkers deemed capable
of achieving 24kms (men) and 2hours 10mins (women).
Probable start times Men - 11.00 a.m. Women 13.15 p.m.
£5 entries (close 8 Sept), and any further donations to
my President's appeal, ASAP please made payable to Race Walking
Association to my address at 2 Lodge Close, Lisvane, Cardiff

Dates for 2003 |
It is necessary

move to a new date to be fixed later. This will provide another
20k in the calendar. In addition the 9th August, selected for
the Men's 50k and Women's 5k has now become a clash with the
A.A.A. of E. U/17 Champs and the U/20 & U/23 Inter-Area Track

Mike Smith completed a hat-trick of National 50k wins by taking

turning a half-way deficit of 2:30 into a winning margin of 5:11.
Coventry retained the team trophy as the field halved in size
between the start and the finish.

R.W.A. A.G.M. |
The R.W.A. A.G.M.
will be held on the 7th December, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Alexander
Stadium, Birmingham. The papers, which should be received by
Clubs, etc., by the 7th November are ready to be circulated but,
due to the present postal situation, may well arrive late. Please
take this as a notification of the Meeting. There is only one
nomination for each of the Officers, who will be declared elected
unopposed. Sub-Committee Chairmen, etc., may be nominated on
the day; it would be particularly helpful to receive a nomination
for Minutes Secretary! The only motions on the Agenda will be
technical ones dealing with (1) the election of the President-elect
and the succession to the Presidency, (2) a new definition of
an Affiliated Club which are not expected to be contentious;
in any case, Clubs, etc., have until the 26th November to propose
amendments. For the resolution of any queries, please telephone,
fax or E-mail the Hon.Gen.Sec. ( see the Officers
page); better not to write! |

No Nihill Shield
Trip to Dublin in 2004 |
Because of a clash of dates with the English Schools regional
and inter-county events, the R.W.A. will not be sending a team
to the Dublin Grand Prix on the 27th June. This was a difficult
decision for the Coaching & Development Sub-Committee, who
realise that it will cause disappointment amonf the many young
walkers who were hoping to take the first steps along the path
of international representation. It was felt, however, that,
important though that experience may be, it is even more important
to build upon the developing schools' base at home.
The Sub-Committee is looking for a way of replacing the Dublin
trip this year and hopes that the clash, largely caused by the
change in the Irish date to accommodate international fixtures,
can be avoided in 2005.
There will still be a Nihill Shield match in conjuntion with
