Categories A &
B |
For
clarification Category A events are judged in the normal way.
Category B events are judged on contact only, bent knees being
disregarded. The following events must be category A:
Internationals; National, Area and County Championships. For all other
events, the Category is at the discretion of the promoting body. Note
that regardless of the Category the mechanics of dealing with DQs are
the same, with (provided that three or more judges are operating)
cautions, a board and disqualification after three cards. |

Risk Assessment |
From the 1st January, the Risk Assessment requirements are in
force; it is a condition of issue of a Permit for a race on the public
highway that a risk assessment has been carried out. The relevant form
can be found on the Health and Safety page of the U.K.Athletics web
site: http://www.ukathletics.net/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4854-131235-132543-nav-list,00.html
The modified Permit application form will be found on
the Fixtures page of this web site.
Copies of the papers will be circulated to all Clubs that have promoted
a road walk in the past year. It should be noted that leagues holding a
number of events on different courses will now require a
separate Risk Assessment and Permit for each different course.

10 miles Championship returns –
and so does Darrell Stone!
|
On a bright, crisp day at
Pickett's Lock, the National 10 miles Championship returned after ten
years with an encouraging turnout. Also coming back was Darrell Stone,
who led his Steyning team-mates to victory, recording 73:41. Women's
Champion was Anne Belchambers of Hillingdon, who took the lead from
Leicester's Helen Middleton in the last 200 yards, coming home in
97:37. Middleton's compensation lay in her Club's victory in the team
competition.

A hard day at Earls Colne
|
If the 10 miles championship
weather was bright and crisp, the 20k/10k day's was dull and icy as
occasional flurries of snow and sleet swept the course; for some
entrants, discretion was the better part of valour and for others
discretion set in during the races. Scott Davis (98:22), well clear of
Trevor Jones, and Diane Bradley (1:57:18), a minute-and-a-half ahead of
dédubtante Fiona McGorum, were the individual 20k Champions with
Steyning and Leicester taking the respective team trophies. In the
Junior 10k championship, winners were Ben Wears (45:23) and a
surprising Holly Smith (55:17), who beat Becky Mersh by three-quarters
of a minute.
